BCCI Needs to Fix Indian Cricket’s Infrastructure First

For once, let’s just forget about the game itself. Wins and losses will always come with the territory and trophies (while still a further reach) are still achievable. What needs to be focused on is the infrastructure within the country, India specifically in this instance. Are you listening, BCCI? What kind of country, especially one that considers itself in the “Big Three” cricketing countries in the world, would allow a Test match to be moved out of a city due to a venue not being ready? What kind of country would allow, in this day and age, to have unclean women’s restrooms and a lack of proper facilities? This is an embarrassment on the world stage and something MUST be done about it!

As if this isn’t enough, Arun Jaitley Stadiule conditions of women’s restrooms/toilets in both stadim (formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla) is now one of the ugliest cricket stadiums in the world. At its peak, it was once known as India’s fortress, as so many memorable performances have been seen here in the past. The wicket, itself, or the outfield is not the problem. The stadium seems outdated, the seats seem unclean, trash lies about, etc. Regarding the venue that was not ready, Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium was not given a favorable report from the board’s inspection panel. Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium and Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium were also under fire from a cricket fan and supporter, Shilpa Phadke. She described the horribums, especially during her recent visit to the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

This was part of the discussion on the State of Cricket podcast, episode 131. Other aspects included Gautam Gambhir’s selective vocalism (due to his vested interest in the IPL/Lucknow Super Giants), six of the best cricket stadiums in the entire nation of India, and some more discussion on Dharamsala’s bad stadium condition as well as the overall need for taking care of India’s cricket infrastructure.
