Totally unexpected from ICC, but best thing they did in their lifetime
T20I status for all 104 ICC members is a brilliant, progressive step.
Who said ICC wasn’t brave. This is monumental decision making by the governing body that met in Kolkata to come to this conclusion.
It’s pretty clear that ICC sees T20s as the way to expand the game. Don’t see the fault either. And it only took about 10 years of rabid screaming from cricket fans across association nations having any interest in the game for them to do so.
T20s are the easiest way to introduce cricket to a newer audience. Can’t wait for some sick matches between relatively unknown countries. Also, as a result of this decision T20 world cup will end up being a world cup in a truer sense.
No good reason why ODI status shouldn’t be extended, ideally to all who want to play either – every other sport gives every match between two international teams international status.
Regardless, 2021 World Cup will most likely be the a World Cup which might mean 100+ teams in World T20 – who knows ?
